The Women's softball team just got back for the spring break road trip to Florida where they played 10 games. During there trip they accumulated an overall record of 1-9. The team faced a tough schedule playing in 5 double headers in only one week down south.
The team's victory came in a 4-3 extra inning thriller! The winning game, which came against St. Norbert was all the more impressive seeing that in this particular game the Trailblazers were the visiting team meaning that they had to bat first giving St. Norbert the chance to end the game in the bottom of the inning. After no scores in the eighth inning the games moved on to the ninth tied at 2-2 it was in that inning where the trailblazers struck. To start the inning it was the Vermont attack when freshman Ashley Morrison started on second base. Batting it was senior Taylor Kenyon who hit a long ball, which landed her on second base and scored her teammate Morrison giving them the edge 3-2. After a pop up by Katie Ouellette Norwood MA, Kenyon was reached third and was in a strong position to increase their lead when Junior Rachel Desautels landed a hit to get Kenyon home. At the end of the inning the trailblazers held a lead 4-2 going into the bottom of the inning St. Norbert scored one run but the blazers were able to seal the deal in this one with the final score of 3-4. "the win felt great we had been playing great softball and it was nice to achieve victory in a close game" said Ouellette after the game about there victory.
Now that the girls are back up north it looks like they will have brought the heat with them as their conference schedule will start up later this weekend against Salem state on the 29th. But when it wont be until April second that the girls play at home, in that contest it will be a non-league game against Lyndon state college of Vermont. The girls will be playing in their first home league game on the fifth of April a double header against the Framingham State Rams.
Its been a long cold winter in North Adams but the MCLA softball team is looking to warm us all up with a fierce season of play and the drive to have a winning season.
