As the seasons change and the months pass, the weather will get warmer. With the nice weather, we have to say goodbye to winter sports here at MCLA, and shift our attention outdoors and back to the Joe Zavatarro Athletic Complex for another season of softball action.

The softball season at MCLA is promising to be one like we've never seen in the past.

During the off-season, the team has taken new form through strong recruiting and calling upon players from the past to come back and help take control over a season with a lot of potential.

The key returnees

Only three players return from last year's 4-24 squad, two members of the starting infield: Amey Blackburn and Deanna Trumble will return, along with Jen McMurry a right-handed pitcher.

All three players will need to step up this season in order for the team to have success.

Blackburn was the team's only All-MASCAC player last season due to her fielding percent at .980 and team leadership skills.

When the team hits the field this spring, there will be some members noticeably missing from the line up. Gone are the hard hitting former Captains Carissa Everett and Sarah Davitt-Sweeney but in there places two players from the past are rejoining the team. Right handed pitcher Kate Malloy and outfielder Taylor Kenyon.

Malloy is back after a season off and will be looking to give the team a boost in the pitching department after a freshmen campaign which featured a pair of wins over MASCAC conference foes Salem state.

Kenyon, an outfielder with a big arm and a great sense for the game, will bring a lot of energy to the outfield. But those are not the only newcomers to the team. Fourth-year head Coach Kristin Parzych has reloaded her roster in order to send the Trailblazers in the right direction.

Maggie Kucharski, a right-handed pitching transfer from Greenfield, should "should really help us out a lot," Parzych said.
